
Chair Jason Brune has extensive experience throughout Alaska. He is currently the Director of Environmental Management with the North Slope Borough. Prior to that, he served as the Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner, appointed by Governor Dunleavy in December 2018.
Previous experience includes serving as the senior director of land and resources at Cook Inlet Region Inc. and as the public affairs and government relations manager for Anglo American, a global mining company. He has served on the Alaska Sealife Center Board, Cook Inlet Beluga Whale Endangered Species Act (ESA) Recovery Team, Tyonek Tribal Conservation District Board, and the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Public Advisory Committee. Trustee Brune is also the former executive director of the Resource Development Council, executive director emeritus of Alaska Resource Education, and past president of the Alaska Miners Association.
He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Carleton College, a Master of Science degree in environmental science from Alaska Pacific University, and is currently attending Vermont Law, where he is pursuing a Juris Doctorate in environmental law.
Trustee Brune was appointed to the APFC Board of Trustees on July 1, 2022, to serve in a cabinet-designated seat and was subsequently reappointed on August 22, 2023, to a four-year public seat. Trustee Brune was elected to serve as Chair of the Board at the July 24, 2024, Regular Meeting and currently serves in that role.

APFC operates under the oversight of a six-member Board of Trustees. The Board serves as fiduciaries of the Alaska Permanent Fund and is responsible for ensuring the Fund is managed in accordance with state law and the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and financial stewardship.
