Ethan Schutt

Vice Chair

Vice Chair Ethan Schutt has spent two decades in public service and executive management roles in Alaska. Trustee Schutt is currently the Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer for Bristol Bay Native Corporation, where he leads BBNC’s efforts in legal, compliance, and records management. He has a 20-plus-year career as a senior executive in Alaska businesses and institutions, with extensive experience in project development, energy, and corporate governance.

Trustee Schutt has lived and worked professionally in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau; maintains strong connections with several rural communities and off-road villages and regularly spends time off the grid enjoying Alaska. He was raised by public school teachers in the Eastern Interior highway town of Tok. Now, Trustee Schutt and his wife are the proud parents of five hockey players.

Trustee Schutt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Washington State University and a Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School.

Trustee Schutt was appointed to the APFC Board of Trustees on August 13, 2020 to one of four public seats, and subsequently reappointed on July 18, 2024, to another four-year public seat. He served as Chair of the Board from September 22, 2022, until June 30, 2024. Trustee Schutt was elected as Vice Chair on October 2, 2025, and currently serves in that role. In accordance with APFC Bylaws, as the Vice Chair, Trustee Schutt also serves as the Chair of the Governance Committee.

Board of Trustees

APFC operates under the oversight of a six-member Board of Trustees. The Board serves as fiduciaries of the Alaska Permanent Fund and is responsible for ensuring the Fund is managed in accordance with state law and the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and financial stewardship.
